Massachusetts Child Support Laws | MGL c.208, s.28

By Child-Support.com Staff – Last updated

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts through its laws, attempts to ensure that the children of divorced or separated parents are cared for by both parents to the extent of their ability and in the best interest of the children involved. The court takes into account the income of the parents as well as expenses paid on behalf of the children, such as health insurance premiums and child care costs. The court uses child support guidelines to help detemrine the amount of child support to be paid, but that amount can be changed by extenuating circumstances.
