Connecticut Child Support Laws | Chapter 815j, Sec. 46b-84 Connecticut General Statutes

By Child-Support.com Staff – Last updated

The Connecticut Child Support statutes set forth the parameters for requiring a parent to pay child support. Parents are obligated under the law to maintain support for their minor children after a legal separation or divorce according to their ability to pay. A parent is required to support the child financially until the child reaches 18. If the child is still in high school, a parent must continue to support the child until the child finishes high school or until the child reaches 19, whichever comes first. When considering child support, the order issuing authority shall consider a parent’s age, occupation, income, health and employability, as well as other factors.
