How to Calculate and use the Alabama Child Support Calculator

Step 1Download Form CS-42.


Step 2 – Enter the name(s) of the child(ren) up to six (6). Include their name(s) and date of birth of all children under nineteen (19) years of age.

Step 3 – Enter the Plaintiff and Defendant’s: monthly gross income, minus preexisting child-support payment, minus preexisting periodic alimony payment, and you will get the monthly adjusted gross income. Enter the combined monthly gross adjusted income in the right-hand box.

Step 4 – Calculate in line 3 the Percentage Share of Income which is each parent’s income on line 2 divided by the Combined Income).

Step 5 – Enter the Basic Child Support Obligation which is line 2 combined to Schedule of Child Support Obligation otherwise known as ‘Appendix to 32‘.

Step 5 – On line 5 enter the Work-Related Child Care Costs followed by on line 6 the health insurance costs. Line 7 the Total Child-Support Obligation which can be completed by calculating line 4, 5, and 6.

Step 6 – Online 8 you can get each parent’s child support obligation by multiplying line 7 and line 3. On line 9 if the obligor pays for the health insurance it can be entered. On line 10 is the final Recommended Child Support Order which is the final amount due by each parent for child support.
